Taylor played 6 more games for Bath in his loan spell, including making his FA Trophy debut. This ended in a 2–1 victory away to Dorking Wanderers, in which Taylor played the full 90 minutes. He made his debut for the Romans on 5 December 2020, which was also his National League South debut too. On 18 September 2020, James Taylor signed for Bath City on a season long loan alongside fellow Bristol City teammate Tommy Conway. In July 2020, Taylor signed professional terms with the Robins, penning a two-year contract, lasting until 30 June 2022. Taylor netted in the 59th minute for Yate, however it wasn't enough to save them from a 2–1 away defeat. He scored his first and only goal for Yate on 1 February 2020, in a match versus Hendon.
